low back pain treatment

If a new article from a highly respected journal touted chiropractic as superior to physical therapy for back pain patients—would you want medical doctors to read it?

A September 2016 study published in the Journal of Occupational Rehabilitation followed 5511 patients who chose between a chiropractor, physical therapist or MD for managing their LBP. (1) The study concluded:

“Chiropractic patients experience the shortest duration of compensation, and physiotherapy patients experience the longest.”  In addition to shorter first episodes, chiropractic patients also experienced lower rates of recurrence.

This information needs to be delivered to medical providers and other healthcare decision makers. We encourage you to take a few minutes this week to draft a letter to 10 primary care providers in your area. Here’s a sample:

Dear Dr. *,

Our clinic specializes in the evaluation and management of low back pain.  I hope you will consider chiropractic co-management for your next LBP patient. I will work diligently to earn your trust as an evidence-based, patient care partner who returns injured workers back to work fast, at a decreased cost, and reduced frequency of re-injury.

Sincerely,
Dr. *
